GENELINK, INC ANNOUNCES THE FILING OF A U.S. PATENT APPLICATION FOR A PROPRIETARY TEST FOR OXIDATIVE STRESS GENES
April 5, 2001

MARGATE, NJ - (Business Wire) - April 5, 2001 - GeneLink BioSciences, Inc. (OTCBB:GNLK), The World's First Family Centered DNA Bank and Hereditary Genetic Information Service, today announced that it has filed a U.S. Patent Application through the Philadelphia office of the international law firm of Akin, Gump, Strauss & Feld, for GeneLink's new invention of a proprietary test for the assessment of oxidative stress (OS) genes. OS genes are needed to rid our bodies of harmful oxygen free radicals that are generated by the natural digestion of foods, ordinary respiration, and other everyday processes. Long-term failure to neutralize the toxic oxygen free radicals leads to damage of important cellular components and can contribute to disease and aging.

Specifically, this new OS gene test (Patent Pending) is designed to measure single-nucleotide polymorphisms, or SNPSs (pronounced "snips"), which are small variations in DNA. The test looks for SNPS's in several key OS genes that are associated with a variety of medical conditions associated with oxidative stress. The OS test provides a score that can be used as a guide to determine what level of vitamin and nutrient therapy is helpful to combat oxidative stress.

An attractive feature of this test is the easy and non-invasive method by which the samples are collected using the patented GeneLink DNA Collection Kit. Simply, the DNA material is collected by rubbing the inside of the mouth with swabs, which are then mailed to the testing laboratory. The samples are kept strictly confidential by bar coding. GeneLink has the only patented non-invasive DNA collection system in use today.

Significant opportunities exist for GeneLink to bring to market its proprietary, new OS gene test. This test can assist nutritional companies, medical, health and anti-aging practitioners a "more targeted" and improved approach to wellness/nutritional therapies. This assessment test could be a superior solution to those companies seeking to predict their customer's genetic capacity to prevent oxidative stress and measure the level of oxidative pressure to which an individual (their customer) is subjected.

"The Company is extremely excited to enter into the nutritional market with our genetic assessment system for oxidative stress. This breakthrough can assist nutritional companies in developing the latest designer nutraceutics. With the increased competition in the nutritional product industry, this new test could increase companies market share and put them at the leading edge when it comes to developing specific antioxidant formulation," says John R. DePhillipo, Chairman and CEO of GeneLink BioSciences, Inc. "We have received an overwhelming response from major nutritional companies for distribution of this new product. We also have been communicating with national as well as international laboratories, to service the need this new product will demand. It is our belief that revenues from this product will begin by September 1st of this year."
