GeneLink BioSciences, Inc. AND ARCH UNIT ANNOUNCE COLLABORATIVE AGREEMENT TO DEVELOPE INNOVATIVE PERSONAL CARE PRODUCTS BASED ON GENETIC PROFILING TECHNOLOGIES
September 19, 2001

MARGATE, NJ - (Business Wire) - September 19, 2001- GeneLink BioSciences, Inc. (OTCBB:GNLK) The World's First Family Centered DNA Bank and Hereditary Genetic Information Service, and Arch Personal Care Products L.P. of South Plainfield, NJ, a unit of Arch Chemicals, Inc. (NYSE: ARJ) today announced that they have entered into a collaborative agreement to create an innovative category of products for the personal care and cosmetics industry.

The collaborative effort will focus on developing products with unique active ingredients that help alleviate specific oxidative stress deficiencies in the skin - deficiencies that can be quickly determined by GeneLink's new single nucleotide polymorphism (SNPs based) genetic profiling methodologies.

For the first time, simply by swabbing the inside of one's mouth and sending the collected sample to GeneLink's laboratories, a person can have a skin or personal care formulation specifically designed to compensate for associated deficiencies.

"We are privileged and excited to begin working with Arch Personal Care Products," adds John DePhillipo, CEO of GeneLink. "Together we expect to advance the science of personal care and anticipate new products could be ready for worldwide distribution in the early part of 2002."

"Arch is pleased to begin this collaborative development effort with GeneLink," stated Andy Banham, Arch's Vice President of Personal Care Sales. "We are committed to providing our customers with cosmetic and personal care ingredients that are state-of-the-art and are backed by solid, scientific evidence supporting our claims of functionality and effectiveness."

Arch Personal Care Products, L.P., a business unit with Arch's Treatment Products business segment, sells a variety of unique products to businesses in the cosmetics and toiletries arena, an approximately $40 billion US retail market (May 14, 2001 Chemical Market Reporter). Arch Personal Care Products, which was formed following Arch's acquisition of Brooks Industries in December, 2000, sells active ingredients such as anti-dandruff agents, live yeast cell derivatives, plant-based proteins and natural botanicals, anti-oxidants, functional silicone ingredients and various cosmetic delivery vehicle technologies, including liposomes and UV crosslinked polymeric matrices.
